The Epsten Gallery Presents 'Continuous Exchange'

The Epsten Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition, Continuous Exchange, featuring site-specific installations of ceramic sculpture by artists Nathan Craven, Margaret Kinkeade and Casey Whittier. Featured works reflect upon traditions of making, community experience, nature, time, and place.

Continuous Exchange occurs in conjunction with Makers, Mentors and Milestones — the 50th Annual Conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) in Kansas City – taking place March 16-19.

The visual, thematic and visceral components of each artist’s work commingle into a narrative expanding our understanding of art, traditions of building, community art making, material applications, and the delicate, increasingly fragile balance between nature and humanity.  Through stunning, intricate compositions, each artist comments on the flux between convention and innovation, and the ever-changing, overlapping roles and imprints we create that inform and affect our existence.

Nathan Craven lives and works in Roswell, N.M.  Craven’s custom floors and walls composed of ceramic extrusions are widely exhibited, including a recent installation of Poros at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.  Margaret Kinkeade lives and works in Kansas City, and has participated in numerous national exhibitions including the 2013 NCECA National Student Juried Exhibition in Houston, Texas.  Casey Whittier lives and works in Kansas City and is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Ceramics at the Kansas City Art Institute.  Whitter is an exhibiting artist and co-organizer of Continuous Exchange at Epsten Gallery and Garden Party, an NCECA exhibition at Belger Arts Center, Kansas City, Mo.
